Bad Luck
Tumblr media
Request: Yes or No
This is the idea I mentioned earlier! I don’t know how many people will be interested cause I know Dusk Till Dawn isn’t that popular but it’s a fun and interesting series! It’s on Netflix and it’s honestly just gory.
~
(Y/N) stared at the dirty tiled ground, hearing the two armed men talking with the ranger who had come in to help his partner. (Y/N) swallowed, raising his gaze as he heard footsteps approaching. (Y/N) made brief eye contact with those cold blue eyes. Jessie and Libby trembled, avoiding eye contact with the man holding them hostage.
“Him?” (Y/N) heard the man, Richie Gecko, ask quietly. (Y/N) furrowed his brows, glancing up. Richie hummed, nodding to himself. (Y/N) glanced at his friends, wondering what was going through their minds. Jessie’s mascara had trailed down her cheeks from crying, though her green gaze was fiery. It was odd for (Y/N) to see Jessie crying. Jessie was usually a headstrong sassy girl who didn’t take shit from anyone. The duct tape covering their mouths prevented them from talking or making too much noise. (Y/N) had no idea what to do and it ate him up inside. Playing the hero could get him and his friends shot. Pete had already gotten a shot to the stomach for no reason. (Y/N) couldn’t risk his other two friends getting hurt. (Y/N) wished they hadn’t stopped to get beer.
(Y/N) chewed on his gum, gaze locked on his phone. He sighed, getting bored with the mobile game. He looked up, seeing Libby and Pete chatting through the window, probably flirting like always. (Y/N) got out of the car, closing the car door. He glanced around. They were in the middle of nowhere and the heat was starting to get annoying. Libby shot him a wide smile, twirling a strand of her blonde hair around her finger.
“Tell Pete he needs to come to the party tonight!” Libby said, arms crossing as a pout appeared on her face. (Y/N) chuckled, giving an eye roll and shaking his head as he looked around the small store. His eyes lit up, spotting some chocolate bars.
“Can I get a free chocolate?” (Y/N) asked, looking through the chocolate bars. Pete scoffed, shaking his head as a playful smiled toyed on his lips which earned a pout from his friend.
“I gave you three free ones last time. You need to start paying up.” Pete leaned back in his seat, arms crossing. Jessie approached them, a scowl on her face. The three noticed, brows furrowed. Jessie brushed some of her black hair out of her face, head shaking.
“What happened?” (Y/N) asked, frowning and sharing a look with Libby. Jessie shook her head, huffing as Pete rang up the pack of beers. Jessie glanced over her shoulder, green eyes scanning the aisle.
“There’s some fucking weirdo back there. Something’s wrong with him.” She shook her head. (Y/N) hummed, giving a small nod. He grabbed a chocolate bar, tossing it on the counter.
“Ignore him.” (Y/N) said, spitting his gum out into the nearby trash can. Jessie crossed her arms, grumbling under her breath. (Y/N) gave her shoulder a squeeze, hoping it would ease her. Pete reached over to grab the beer, gaze lifting. (Y/N) went to follow his gaze before feeling a strong hand grabbing his arm. (Y/N) turned his head, making eye contact with blue eyes before a gun barrel came into view.
(Y/N) swallowed, watching Richie walk away to talk with his brother. (Y/N) leaned forward slightly, spotting the older ranger on the floor. His eyes widened, seeing all the blood. The man quietly spoke with his partner, stomach covered in blood and breaths coming out short. (Y/N) leaned back, earning a nudge from Jessie. She quirked a brow, wanting to know what he saw. (Y/N) motioned for her to look so she did, having the same reaction as (Y/N). He looked around for something to use. His pocket knife had been left in the car and everything around them wouldn’t do anything. He could attempt to open the door to the beers though it would risk him being heard. (Y/N) looked up when he saw movement, seeing the other ranger attempting to stop the bleeding. He blinked when Richie crouched down by him.
“What could she possibly want with you?” Richie asked softly, tilting his head. (Y/N) furrowed his brows, wondering who he was referring to. Richie shifted his gaze onto Libby and Jessie. He narrowed his eyes, watching them closely. (Y/N) could shove him. It’d take Seth’s attention off the rangers but it was also risky.
“Richie.” Seth called out, rounding the corner and watching him. Richie didn’t tear his gaze away from the girls.
“They’re spying on me.” Richie said. (Y/N) glanced at Libby’s trembling form. He shifted his gaze onto Seth, hoping he’d tell his brother off or realize his brother wasn’t right in the head.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“These girls were sent here to spy on me. You think that I don’t know?”
“Richie, look at me.” Seth snapped his fingers. Richie stood, a soft sigh escaping him. He looked at his brother, head tilting.
“We got really good news. Carlos is sending somebody.” Seth told him, hoping it’d get Richie to relax. He glanced over at the rangers to make sure they weren’t doing anything.
“This Carlos guy, he’s from Mexico, right?” Richie asked, stepping closer to his brother. (Y/N) listened to their conversation. Obviously, they didn’t care of the liquor store. Richie had impulsively caused the whole mess by holding them hostage and by shooting the ranger. (Y/N) had read about the Geckos in articles before. They were a brother duo who robbed places. Last thing he had heard, Seth had been sent to prison but Richie probably came to his rescue. The brothers went back and fourth before Richie used his gun to motion at (Y/N).
“He’s coming with us.” Richie said. (Y/N) blinked, looking up at them. Seth furrowed his brothers, lips parting. Libby and Jessie mirrored his expression as they whipped their heads around to look at (Y/N).
“What? Why? He’ll be liability.” Seth pointed out, huffing softly. Richie shook his head, stepping closer to his brother.
“Trust me, Seth. My gut says he has to come with us.” Richie told him, eyes pleading. Seth stared back at him, not completely thrilled or convinced. He licked his lips and shaking his head.
“It’s bad enough we’re holding him hostage but taking him? That’s abduction, Richie.”
“We’re criminals, Seth!” Richie reminded, hands raising. Seth gave a small eye roll, looking down at (Y/N). He looked back at Richie with a cocked brow.
“What’s so important about a twenty-something year old with no fashion sense?” Seth questioned, earning a muffled scoff from (Y/N).
“He could be useful. These girls, on the other hand, are useless. We don’t need them alive.” Richie said, using the gun to motion to the girls. Seth sighed heavily, opening the fridge and taking out a beer. He opened it, letting the cap hit the three below.
“Relax, Richie. Have a cold one.” Seth said, offering it to him. Richie went to grab it but Seth pulled it out of Richie’s reach. (Y/N) watched Seth walk away to answer a phone call after handing the beer to Richie. A few moments later, he approached them again.
“We gotta get movin’. Carlos ain’t coming.” Seth said, sighing as Richie slowly stepped towards him. He leaned forward slightly, a smug look on his face
“I knew it. He’s your guy. This is on you.” Richie said, earning a glare from Seth. Richie grinned widely, happy he had proven Seth wrong.
“Guess we do this the hard way.” He shifted his amused gaze onto the rangers. Seth snapped his fingers in his face.
“Hey, no. We’re not doing this. We are not killing any more people today, you got that?” Seth cocked a brow. It felt like he was scolding a disobedient child. (Y/N) noticed the ranger that had been shot had gone limp. His partner stood, raising his hands as he faced the brothers. He tried negotiating with them but Richie was having none of it. (Y/N) glanced at the girls. Jessie looked back, eyes swirling with emotions. The brothers were outnumbered but they had the guns and experience. (Y/N) heard soft shuffling, eyes widening when he realized Pete was still alive.
“Pete, go!” The ranger ran, going around and towards the back of the counter. Seth shot at him, quickly going after him while Richie stayed towards the back of the aisle. (Y/N) looked up, watching Richie aim the gun at Jessie as a gunshot rang out in the back. (Y/N) looked forward, seeing the older ranger standing with a gun in his hand. Richie noticed and faced him, hand instinctively raising. The older ranger pulled the trigger, blasting a hole through Richie’s palm and breaking the glass. (Y/N) ducked his head, feeling the glass and blood hit his back. He flinched at the shots, hearing more glass shattering and Richie stumbling. (Y/N) looked at the girls, seeing their clothes and hair covered in glass shards. (Y/N) ripped the tape off, turning and grabbing a beer bottle. The girls hurried to take the tape off, glancing at (Y/N). (Y/N) watched as Richie raised his hand, fatally shooting the ranger. (Y/N) stood, slamming the beer bottle against Richie’s back and watching him stumble, falling to the ground. The girls wasted no time in standing and kicking him. Richie grunted and cried out, getting Seth’s attention.
“Hey.” He huffed, watching them. The girls stopped, panting from exhaustion and adrenaline. Jessie faced him, panting.
“There’s something... Really wrong with your brother.” She breathed out, sending Richie a glare. (Y/N) shook the glass off his clothes and hair, panting as well. He licked his lips, looking at Richie as the girls walked away. (Y/N) looked at Seth with furrowed brows, watching him take out a lighter.
“What does your brother want from me?” (Y/N) asked, tilting his head. Seth dropped the lighter, watching a flame rise and spread. He sighed, facing (Y/N).
“I’ve got no fucking idea, kid.” Seth replied, shrugging lightly. Richie slowly got up, groaning. (Y/N) glanced at him, scoffing and turning to walk away.
“Not so fast, (Y/N).” Richie grunted, rolling his shoulders. (Y/N) frowned, looking at him. He eyed him, cocking a brow. Unless Jessie had mentioned him, Richie had no way of knowing his name.
“How the hell do you know my name? Have you been stalking me or something?” (Y/N) asked, stepping toward him with fists clenched. Richie let out a breathy chuckle, shaking his head.
“We’re gonna get to know each other on this trip, my friend.” Richie said, raising his gun at him. (Y/N) glared at him, jaw clenching in annoyance. He reached out, grabbing Richie’s wrist and turning his body sideways, elbowing Richie in the face in a quick motion. Richie groaned, stumbling back. Seth raised his brows, nodding.
“Impressive.” He chuckled as the smoke started spreading. (Y/N) shrugged, turning to walk away but he heard a gun click.
“And useful. You’re coming with us.” Seth said. (Y/N) licked his lips, shoulders slumping as he sighed. Seth noticed and shrugged, watching (Y/N) face him.
“Sorry, kid. You just have bad luck.”

Imagine being someone that the Gecko brothers attempt to take hostage. They don't expect you to be as calm and collected as you are, nor do they expect you to be anything other than human.
Tumblr media
Gen Fic X Reader
Glancing at the three individuals who've dropped into the empty seats across from you, you smirk at the two men who immediately start making demands and threatening violence should you not cooperate with whatever they have planned.
"Is this meant to intimidate me?" You chuckle, leaning back in your seat and crossing one knee over the other as your arms cross over your chest. Your gaze quickly darts to the girl who looks no older than eighteen, nineteen at the most. "Are you trying to draw attention to the table, kid? Keep glancing nervously over your shoulder and someone's going to realize you're acting sketchy."
She guiltily turns forward once more, a blush staining her cheeks. "Dammit, Princess," the one man with tattoos visibly crawling up from under his shirt and onto his neck says. "Chill out. We got this handled."
"Dream on, pretty boy. You've got shit handled."
The telltale sound of a gun cocking echos from beneath the table. The man with glasses and slicked back hair raises an eyebrow at you. "You were saying?"
You roll your eyes and drop your hands into your lap. "Relax, boys. And lose the constipation face. We're all friends here. Sort of." You smirk ferally this time, your teeth a little more sharper than usual and the two men shift uncomfortably in their seats. "So who's hungry?"
"What?" The girl asks.
"Do.. you.. want.. food?" You enunciate slowly. "Because no offense, but you guys look like shit. And for three drifters such as yourselves, plus the way your boys immediately started demanding money, I'm assuming you're low on funds and decided to hit the first person who looked as if they came from money."
"You don't look like you come from money," Glasses says. "You do come from money. We've been watching."
Your smirk starts to widen again. "You've been watching? Well if you've been watching then you'd realize that no one messes with me. There's a reason for that."
"Yeah? And what's that?" The other male asks. The two men are rather cocky and their patience are starting to wear thin. The female, however, still seems a bit rattled.
Leaning forward in your seat, you rest your right arm on the table. "People like your brother call me la loba." Both men tense and you huff a laugh. "Do calm yourselves. Richie isn't the first generic vampire I've come across. Nor will he be the last."
"You know who we are?" The young girl asks.
"People like my brother?" Seth Gecko frowns.
"I am not a generic vampire." Richie Gecko scowls and you laugh again. "I'm a culebra. We're.. unique."
"Sure. Whatever makes you feel better." Then turning your attention to Seth, you say, "You didn't think I was human, did 'ya? I'd have been a fool to be human and be as calm as I am with your weapons trained on me under the table. Newsflash, boys, your bullets won't do much damage to me."
"But they will do damage."
"For a minute or so," you muse. "And then I'll only be in a pissed off mood." Glancing at the girl, you smile your first genuine smile. "To answer your question, I do know who you are. What you and the Geckos have been doing all around Mexico does not go unnoticed."
"Who the hell are you?" Seth then demands. "What are you?"
"That's a story.. to be shared over food. Now seriously," both your hands slap the table top and you push yourself to stand up and the three strangers all tense in surprise, "who's coming with me to get tacos? I'm not carrying back everyone's orders."
"Kate, go with her," Richie says.
"Like hell she will," Seth grumbles. "I'll go."
It takes the brothers only a few seconds to holster their weapons and for Seth to grumpily stand up. You grin at his mulish expression and then make your way towards a taco truck without offering him or his companions a backwards glance. You order three tacos, plus a lemonade, and then motion for Seth to order for his party all on you. He does and then after a tense fifteen minutes all your food and drinks are ready.
Opening one of your tacos, you drizzle some hot sauce in it before closing it back up and taking a bite. Then after washing it down with a sip of lemonade, you go on to tell them your story. "I grew up knowing about the supernatural. My family was known for.. hunting the bad ones," you say. "There's a certain breed of werewolf that the alpha's of that breed can turn a human with just a bite. It's fifty-fifty, really, because the bite can either turn your or kill you."
"And you, what? You were bitten?" Seth wonders around a mouthful of food.
"Not really." After eating a few more bites of your own, you continue. "It's also said that if an alpha's claw dig just deep enough, you can turn that way too. But that way of turning is really rare."
"Let me guess," Richie deadpans, "you were one of the rare occurrences?"
You wink at him. "Some alpha asshole ripped my throat out and then left me for dead. I would've woke up in the morgue, but some people who knew what was happening stole my body and left me to turn away from prying eyes. And now here I am. Still doing the family business with the added bonus of being a supernatural bad ass myself."
Kate frowns around her straw. "So you're a werewolf then? Does that make you an alpha too?"
"Oh no. I'm not really sure how everything works, but when you Turn.. your form reflects your inner self. There are a lot of creatures that fall under the were category."
"Yeah? And what's your inner self?" Seth asks.
"If you're lucky enough, lizard, you just might get to see for yourself."
The rest of the food is eaten in relative silence with the Gecko brothers still a little stiff. After everything is eaten and no one really knows what's going to happen next, you heave a little sigh and offer them an olive branch.
"Look. I know you guys are in some trouble what with who've you been freeing and killing. I know I'm only one person, but if you want.. I have a place you can crash at. It's a bit out of the way, so if anything happens then it can happen with as little causalities as possible."
"Why are you being so nice?" Kate wonders. "Seth and Richie didn't exactly start off on the right foot with you."
You shrug. "Honestly? Out of the four of us here at the table, you don't deserve to have to live your life looking over your shoulder. And I also might be a tad bit lonely. Because of who I am, people tend to stay away. I miss having someone to talk to."
"About that," Seth then pipes up. "What is la loba?"
"It's a myth," you chuckle. "It means she-wolf. Basically, la loba collects the bones of creatures from the desert and it's said her preference are wolves. And when she has the full skeleton of her wolf, she sings to it. She sings and sings until the skeleton regrows it's flesh and fur, and then the wolf leaps up and runs. Sometime during the run, the wolf transforms into a laughing woman who runs free into the sunset."
"Why you though? Why were you given the name?"
"Because I'm usually spotted in the desert either killing a rogue supernatural or running with nature's very own wolves in my own were-form. Some people have seen my shift from human to creature and just dubbed me with the name."
"So you don't bring to life skeletons?" Kate quietly asks. "Because that'd be pretty neat."
"If only," you smile gently. "Now.. who's ready to get going? I've had a tiring day and I need a shower."
Your house is big enough for several guests, but it's the compound behind your house that catches everyone's attention. After you had given everyone a brief run down of the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen, the attention had been brought back to the building that sat at least half a football field behind your house.
"It's the playground," you tell them when Richie becomes curious. "Want to go see?"
Seth and Kate were hesitant, but tagged along anyway when you and Richie set out through the back door. You deactivated the alarm system and threw open the door, presenting the inside with a sweeping motion of your arm. Seth's eyes widen in shock.
"There's a gun range in the back," you say. "Up front is all the merchandise and you can test it out in the back. As long as you're here, I'll leave the alarm system off so you can come and go as you please."
"Holy shit," Richie breathes in awe.
"But you can start playing tomorrow. Tonight all of you need some rest because Seth and Kate are starting to smell sick."
"Smell sick? How can you even tell?" Seth huffs.
You tap the side of your nose. "Perks of being Other."
The brothers reluctantly leave your very own playground in favor of getting out of their rumpled clothing and into clean sleep clothes after showering. Kate immediately heads to bed, Seth lingers about, and Richie finds solace in your library as he skims through information about some of the supernatural creatures you've kept journals on. But fatigue eventually wins out and everyone heads off to bed.
Your guests have stayed for a week, basking in the freedom and quiet of not moving from place to place after realizing you had no ulterior motives. Though they definitely started off on the wrong foot with you, something about the three of them made the ache of loneliness in your chest ease just a bit. Hence the olive branch and chance of friendship.
Unfortunately, good luck is bound to run out.
And today is, unfortunately, that day.
Seth had taken Kate into town to grab some necessities the young girl suddenly found herself needing and they came speeding back down the private dirt road nearly two hours later.
You and Richie had thought nothing of it and entered the compound, only to have Seth and Kate rush in moments later- Kate looking rather shaken.
"We got company!" Seth shouts.
You and Richie freeze, and your grin turns into a frown at Kate trying to hug herself as she glances between everyone and unsure of what to do. "How many? And who?" You ask.
"Three cars followed us, but one car stopped and turned around after we turned down the dirt road to head here. My guess is culebras. They're the only assholes we've had problems with since escaping Mexico."
Your grin reappears. "Which means we've got two cars full of generic vampires who have no idea whose territory they just trespassed on. Ohhh, this is going to be fun." Richie and Seth stare at you as if seeing you for the first time, you then looking to Kate. "You comfortable with shooting a gun, kid?" She hesitates in answering and you gesture towards a hallway. "There's a panic room back there. Once the door is shut behind you, only you'll be able to open it from the inside. The code is written down and taped to the key pad. Don't come out until you see the fight is over on the cameras."
Glancing at the brothers for permission or whatever, Kate only leaves when Seth gives her a nod. Then cracking your neck, you turn towards the opened doors of the compound. "So what's the deal? Why are they really after you guys?" You ask as you await the inevitable fight.
The brothers hesitate before Richie sighs. "Kate is the key to finding a blood well full with ancient blood. All the culebras want to claim it as their own and everyone knows that to get it, they need Kate."
"So protect the girl. Got it," you nod. You shift your feet so they’re shoulder width apart and rotate your shoulders to loosen some of the tension. Seth produces a gun from the back waist band of his pants and fixes his own stance, readying himself for a fight.
Figure after figure enter and eight hissing generic vampires form a half circle in front of you and the Geckos. Your gaze darts from one figure to the next, your eyes narrowing on the one brave idiot who steps forward and hisses.
"Where's the girl?"
"Fuck off."
"What girl?" You shrug innocently. "I'm the only girl here." The culebras hiss in annoyance and you smirk.
"Keep your mouth shut, bitch, or we'll take you along with little miss cherry pie."
Their leering smiles and mocking chuckles makes you tense and see red. Richie hisses from beside you and you don't need to look at him to know he's transformed, and Seth takes aim with his gun. Your smirk slowly fades. "Wrong answer."
The culebras bravely step forward, Seth fires off two rounds, and you bend at the knees.. your own transformation happening within a second as you let out a heart stopping roar. Given the sudden quietness, plus the wide eyed stares and Seth's mumbled, "What the fuck?", you know what you look like to them. Your normal human flesh is now tinged dark gray and lighter gray in places, the whites of your eyes have turned black while the irises now shine a molten green, the bones in the middle of your forehead have shifted and changed to give your face a more animalistic quality, your fingernails have elongated into claws, and your four canine teeth have elongated drastically.
"La loba," one of the culebra murmurs. "She's real."
"No shit, asshole. And you just trespassed onto my land."
Silence reigns, and off in the distance wolves howling and coyotes yipping distract the now uncertain culebras. You give no warning as you rush forward, swinging one arm back and slashing your first victim diagonally from shoulder to hip. You use your claws to stab and slash, roaring your anger and relishing in the fact that the power in your voice is enough to make the culebras stumble. Seth is firing off round after round while Richie goes toe to toe with a culebra of his own.
All too soon, though, the fight is over.
Chest heaving with exertion, it takes a moment for you to get your bearings. Your eyes dart all over the room and you must be a sight to behold because the Gecko brothers tense when you shift in their direction.
"Y/N?" Richie says.
You growl in response. You can feel the blood splatter dripping from your chin and finger nails, but the thrill of the fight is still thrumming in your veins and you're finding it hard to shift back at the moment.
"You good?" Seth asks, eyes narrowed.
Gulping, you nod once. "Yeah." You inhale deeply before blowing it out slowly. "Yeah. Just.. I'm on edge. I'll change back when I'm ready. Kate's good to come out if she wants to. I don't hear anyone else on my property and I'm under control. None of you have anything to fear from me."
A moment passes and then Kate's scent is filling your senses. Your gaze darts to her as she rushes passed you to reach Seth and Richie, and you offer her a faint grin. Slowly, but surely, you can feel the change washing over your.
"Seeing someone change never gets old," Seth mumbles. Richie snorts in response. "What exactly are you?"
"I'm a jaguar," you say, grinning. "Much cooler than a measly werewolf."
The coyotes and wolves are still howling and yipping in the distance, and the three standing before you seem to finally recognize it and become wary. "I know you said that la loba was a myth, but what's up with that?" Richie asks.
You shrug. "I don't have any control over them, but we do understand each other. People like to shoot them for fun or for their fur and I put a stop to it. In return, when I howl, they answer. It's like.."
"A pack," Kate says, smiling. "Your very own pack."
"I guess you can say that." The tension seems to leave everyone and you all linger about, glancing at the bodies littering the floor. "So I'm in desperate need of a bath," you mention. "And afterward I think we need to all sit down and talk about what the hell is going on. I'm not too keen on these generic fucks," you say while distractedly kicking a body, "hunting down a teenage girl. That doesn't sit right with me."
"You and me both," Seth grumbles.
"Mhm. So we need to come up with a plan. That third car that fled with tell others where Kate is laying low at, so either culebras will test their luck and come in droves or my presence might actually be enough to keep those who know me at bay."
"I don't want to be a burden," Kate softly says. "You've been more than kind to let us stay-"
"And I'll continue to be more than kind and teach you how to defend yourself," you cut her off, smiling. "If you’re going to run with the Gecko's, you really need to know how to handle a weapon, kid. Okay?"
"I.. okay," Kate agrees, a bit sheepishly.
"Okay. But first.. shower! You boys," you then say, pointing between Seth and Richie, "clean the place up. I got the most kills so I get to skip out."
You leave without a backwards glance, but throw your head back in laughter when you hear Seth sigh and mumble, "Dick.", under his breath.
Later on when you go back to check, you smile when you realize they’ve sterilized the entire front room of the compound where the blood bath had taken place.

Imagine having befriended Los Hermanos Gecko when you were younger, a friend who they lost touch with after Seth got sent to Prison and Richie fell off the grid. Though you kept up to date with Seth through letters for a few months during his Prison stint, you lost all contact and stopped wondering about them when the Police turned up on your front porch asking if you had any contact with the brothers. Spoiler alert, you hadn't. But years later, should the Police ask you that question again.. well you couldn't exactly give them that same answer.
Tumblr media
Richie X Reader
"That last job was a shit show, Richard! We need to lay low somewhere off the grid, not plan another job."
"Well what do you suggest, brother? In case you've forgotten, we're criminals. We have no friends and our funds aren't up to snuff."
"We can always go back to Texas," Kate suggests tiredly after a tense moment of silence. "I left my family home in the care of a friend in case I ever went back. There's enough room for the three of us."
"Dumb idea, Katie. Small towns like Bethel breed fast gossip. If you're spotted around town again, people will know about it within hours."
Kate sighs, curling up on the second bed in their shared room. Richie sits at the small kitchenette table cleaning weapons and Seth sits in a wooden chair while keeping watch through the closed mini-blind at the window.
"Bethel is a dumb idea," Seth eventually says. "Texas? Not so much."
This time it's Richie who sighs. "And pray tell, brother, just why you would want to go back to Texas?"
"It's not that I want to, but you should." Richie glances at Seth, brow furrowed. "Think about it, Richard. What else did we leave back in Texas? More specifically, who?"
Richie frowns, mind whirling with what Seth has given him to think about and Kate sits up at the sight of Richie actually being puzzled for once. He actually has to take a minute to think about it and Kate guesses Richie's figured out who his brother is talking about when his eyes subtly widen. "You're joking. Right? Y/N?"
Seth nods as Kate asks, "Who's Y/N?"
"A childhood friend," Richie is quick to say just as Seth says, "Richie's first love."
Kate's eyes widen, but a genuine smile tugs at the corner of her lips. "Do tell."
Ignoring Kate, Richie goes back to his task at hand, leaving Seth to do all the explaining. "Y/N is a girl Richie used to go to school with. She called him a creep, he called her a bitch and it was love at first fight." Kate giggles, a sound that the brothers haven't heard in a long while since she's joined them after the whole Amaru fiasco, and Richie scoffs. "This little girl looked past Richie's quirks-"
"Because she had quirks of her own," Richie’s quick to throw in. "Lets not forget that she could supposedly sense things she shouldn't be able to."
"Says the culebra," Kate scoffs before looking back at Seth. "Go on."
"Anyway, she basically watched over him when it came to bullies. I don't know how many times Richie and Y/N were seated in the office together because of the fights they got in to."
"It's not like we started them."
"So what happened to her?"
"I.. actually don't know," Seth says. "We stayed in touch well after high school and I even got a handful of letters from her when I was locked up."
"Wait. Really?" Richie wonders, staring at his brother.
"Yeah. When did you two stop talking? You never actually said and she kind of slipped our minds the second we crossed the border."
Richie goes quiet and averts his gaze back to the weapons, and Seth raises his eyebrows in surprise. Kate gasps, eyes alight with mirth. "Are you- are you blushing?"
Seth snorts. "Can snakes blush? What's the deal, Richard? What happened between you and Y/N?"
"Nothing."
"Nope. Too fast. He's guilty about something." Kate muses.
"I'm not- Jesus," he sighs when his brother and Kate smugly stare at him. "Fine. The last time I saw Y/N was just after Seth got locked up. We.. had sex and then I went off grid."
Kate rolls her eyes and Seth groans. "Smooth, Richard. Very smooth."
"What? It's not like I planned it. It just so happened that a few days later I started getting visions. If anyone's to blame, it's Santanico."
"Okay, so back to the main topic at hand. Texas," Kate says. "Are you sure she lives there?"
Richie and Seth glance at one another, shrug and Kate grumbles. "I have to do everything myself." She grabs up her discarded laptop that's hooked up to the motel's measly wi-fi and gets a first name and last name out of the brothers. Googling it, she finds a few articles about the person in question. "Okay. So the only Y/N I found inherited a Ranch when her grandparents passed away almost a year ago."
"Shit. Mamo and Papo passed? They were good people," Seth mumbles.
"Mhm. Here's a picture." Kate turns the laptop towards Richie first, then Seth.
Richie just blinks, but Seth's eyebrows raise in surprise. "Yep. That's her alright. She's really grown hasn't she, Richard?"
"Shut it, Seth."
Kate gets comfortable on the bed, readjusting the laptop in her lap to continue searching for details. "I have.. the address," she says, searching out a pad of paper and pen to write it down. "But are you sure you want to drag her into our lives?"
"Well if she has the gift of seeing, she'll already see us coming. Won't she?" Seth smirks.
Kate huffs a quiet laugh. "I just hope she's a ask questions first kind of girl. She'll probably shoot Richie, but I hope she hesitates with us."
"Thanks for that, Katie-Cakes. Just.. dig up more information, will you? Find out if she lives alone and if it's really worth the risk of seeking her out to lay low."
Kate smirks, but gets to work nonetheless. And three days later Richie, Seth and Kate hot wire themselves a new car  and are off to Texas.
The thought of living alone has always unnerved you, but only because of the so-called gifts that passed on to every generation of your family. Unannounced, a vision of the past would overtake you or the echo of something to come would play out right next you as if it really were right there in person. You hadn't known how to feel about the gift of Seeing, but after moving in with your Grandparents and having your grandmother coach you through it all was a bit of a relief.
But then your grandparents passed away, only days apart, and you were left alone. You couldn't leave the property, even if you wanted to, but only because your gift had been acting up a lot as of lately. Two faces from your past were constantly reappearing and startling you badly as their lives and future played out right before your eyes.
Seth and Richie Gecko were two men you could never hold a grudge against or judge for their actions no matter how hard you tried, so it's really no surprise that you find yourself calmly sitting on the porch of your home one night as you await a visit you feel is to come deep in your bones.
You feel the change in the air, a specific charge of danger lingering but not really threatening. At least, not towards you. And there's a feminine whisper among the rustling of leaves, cluing you in on a new addition. You make all the preparations you need- stocking up on food, clothes, hygiene products and any other items that call out to you as you stroll through the supermarket aisles.
You wait for days, sitting on the porch on watching the only dirt road that gives access to your property and leads up to your home. Then one day, your gift proves to be correct as usual when a dusty black Jeep Patriot rumbles slowly closer and closer to your home just as the sun is setting. You faintly see two male faces in the driver and passenger seats, and a smaller third face in the back seat which you guess is the unnamed female.
Seeing the grown, yet familiar faces of Seth and Richie as they climb out the vehicle loosens something in your chest. You see a redhead timidly climb out of the back seat, but you only have eyes for the brothers in black and white suits that are so out of the norm for Texas heat. Richie and his glasses and his slicked back hair, and Seth and his new tattoos and mirth filled eyes when he steps foot on the first step of the porch.
"Y/N."
"Seth." The air seems to rush from your lungs as he smiles and you meet him halfway for a bone crushing hug. When you pull back, one arm stays draped over his shoulder while your other moves so you can reach up with your hand to cup his scruffy cheek. "Prison and running from the law suits you. You've filled out nicely."
He chuckles deeply, his gaze starting from the top of your head and traveling down to the tips of your toes. "You're all grown up too."
"I am." When you finally pull back, you brush down his suit jacket from where you wrinkled it before gesturing over your shoulder. "Dinner's on the stove. Get cleaned up and help yourself."
Relief seems to flood his eyes and his shoulders immediately sag. "No questions?"
"Never. Hop to, Gecko." Seth smiles again at you as he passes by, stopping briefly to press a kiss to your brow before entering your home. The redhead girl is next, she smiling hesitantly. You look her up and down before returning the smile. "You look tired. Clean up, eat and I'll show you where you can sleep."
"Thank you. I'm Kate."
"Nice to meet to you, Kate. I'm Y/N."
"I know. Seth and Richie told me about you."
"Did they?" You raise an eyebrow at her in questioning, she giggling as she walks past you to join Seth and then Richie steps up though he remains two steps below you so you're around the same height. "Richard," you greet.
"Y/N."
He gulps as you step closer until the tips of your toes hang off the edge of the step, your face unreadable as your eyes dart over his every feature and he tenses up as if awaiting some form of lecture or attack. "Eyes find eyes," you murmur right before gently grasping him by the chin. He tenses even further, and you turn his head this way and that way. "Let me see you." Richie holds your gaze before lifting his hand to peel off his glasses. His hand then smooths over his slicked hair and you faintly grin at him. "No. The real you," you amend.
Realization dawns on him and he straightens up some. Confusion flashes in his eyes before he decides he just doesn't care how you know. Then from one moment to the next, he closes his eyes and you watch as the skin of his face ripples into reptilian scales. You softly gasp, your hand still holding him by the chin and then two snake-like fangs click into place when his mouth opens. And then he blinks open his eyes, and they're now yellow and slitted.
"You Geckos. Forever finding trouble," you sadly sigh. Richie's head tilts in confusion and you merely lean forward to press a kiss to his cheek. "Get inside. The sun isn't fully set and you're starting to smoke."
You step back and turn to head inside, but Richie's voice stops you. "That's it? You're not gonna yell at me for how I left? Or scream because of what I am now?"
As you turn back around to face him, you grin. "Before I might have, but now.. I understand. Now will you please get inside before you burst into flames. I rather our reunion be a peaceful one than having to sweep your ashes off to the side."
Richie owlishly blinks and then determination settles over his now very human features. He stomps up the last few steps before closing the distance between the two of you, his large hands grasping you by the biceps as his lips descend upon yours. You return the rather sudden bruising kiss, only making a squeaking noise when you feel his hands suddenly cup the back of your thighs to lift you up.
Your hands then settle on his shoulders before settling on either side of his neck, you groaning when you feel your back hit the portion of the wall right next to the front door. But you're only human and the need for air becomes obvious, and you have to bite Richie's bottom lip to break the kiss. Only when he leans back, chest heaving as your lungs greedily suck in air, Richie remains motionless with his eyes still closed and half his face covered in scales once again.
"Pain still.. does it for 'ya, huh? You're half scales." His eyes fly open and the scales immediately disappear. "Too late. I already saw. And, uh, not that I'm complaining.. but what exactly is going on?" At his blank expression, you glance down to where your legs are being held on either side of his waist.
"I, uh, I-"
The screen door is slapped open, and your and Richie's heads whip to the side as Seth exits. "Hey! Dinner's getting- uh..? What's going on?" He slowly smirks.
"Nothing! Nothing," you frown. You try to wriggle down and out of Richie's grasp, but he just presses you firmer against the wall. You sigh in defeat. "Just.. catching up."
Seth's eyebrows raise. "Catching up, huh? You trying to re-familiarize yourself with my brother's tongue in your mouth and how his co-"
"Goddammit, Seth! If you don't get back inside and mind your own damn business then I will make you cook your own damn food."
"You're meaner than I remember." You sneer and he holds his hands up in surrender. "Fine, fine. I'm going."
When he disappears back inside, you look back at Richie. "And you, mister, need to put me down. I've seen people like you feed without turning someone, so we'll figure something out for you later. But right now, I need to eat and you and Seth get to fight over who gets the guest bedroom."
"Why can't you share with me?"
"Oh, honey," you coo. "Because I might've understood the reason for you leaving, but that doesn't excuse you not picking up a phone the second you got your mind back." Patting his cheek, you bend your legs back to plant your feet on the wall and push forward to make Richie take a step back. You easily maneuver out of his hold until your feet at planted on the ground and then reach up from the tips of your toes to steal one last kiss before heading inside. "Come on, Richie. Don't pout. I get the feeling you three will be laying low here for a little while."
